In canon, Gabriel's identity apparently revolves solely around that of the Trickster, which was formed through the skills Lucifer taught him. This implies that Gabriel's skills as an archangel were far different to those to which he grew accustomed. Therefore, some notes as inspired by sources from Wikipedia, Orthodox wiki, or here, or here. And also the Key of Solomon.

* His elemental sign is water
* His colours are light blue, gold or white
* His flower is the lily
* His instrument is the horn
* His weapon may be a spear
* He's sometimes depicted holding a mirror
Basically, Gabriel the archangel is the patron of communication. He's an artist, a musician, and a diplomat. The symbol of water coincides with his choice in Supernatural to yield rather than fight; the mirror has interesting implications regarding his self-identity and his decision to cast off all about him that was his own in favour of the Trickster.

* His was the best voice in the chorus, and he was a master musician
